Josephine Maurice confessed to fraud, disguising herself as 13 people to take UK citizenship tests for others.

Josephine Maurice appeared in court via video link. She admitted to fraud between June 2022 and August 2023.
The Home Office spoke about her disguises. She used wigs to look like applicants and tried to get them permission to stay illegally.
Maurice also admitted to conspiracy, working with others in the scheme. She possessed two driver’s licenses without cause in 2025.
The “Life in the UK” test is needed for permanent residency and to become a British citizen. The test has twenty-four questions, checking knowledge of British values, history, and society.
Maurice pleaded guilty to all charges. The Home Office talked about test fraud and how it can let people stay wrongly, because proper checks might be skipped. Phillip Parr from the Home Office commented that Maurice planned to avoid getting caught and he thinks money was her main motivation.
Maurice is from Enfield, London. She remains in custody until sentencing, which will happen on May 20 in the same court.
