A woman died after being hit by a trailer. The incident happened in North Yorkshire, near an auction mart entrance.

The woman was a 74-year-old local resident. The incident occurred on Main Street in High Bentham around 10:15 AM on Wednesday, February 19.

Emergency services tried to help her, but sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Specialist officers are assisting her family during this difficult time.

The driver was operating a red Scania truck with a livestock trailer attached. Police arrested the 48-year-old driver from Ryedale for careless driving causing death. He was questioned by the police and subsequently released but remains under investigation as evidence is reviewed.

Local diversions were in place until 7 PM while investigators closed the collision scene to conduct a careful examination. Police believe both the woman and the truck were heading west on Mount Pleasant before the crash outside the entrance.
