Russ Walker cycles from Worcester to Gheluvelt, Belgium, honoring a soldier and raising funds for charities.

The ride will raise money for charity, benefiting St Richard’s Hospice, the Alzheimer’s Society, and the Mercian Regiment Museum.
The “Gheluvelt to Gheluvelt” challenge starts June 26 and ends June 30. Russ, an ex-RAF guy, has some helpers and seeks cyclists of all levels.
The event needs passionate people, cyclists ready for the trip, support crew, and vehicles to succeed. Fundraisers, organizers, and sponsors are also wanted.
The route is about 80 miles daily, with overnight stops in Newbury, Crawley, and Dover. A ferry takes them to Dunkerque on day four.
Gheluvelt offers a chateau visit. Ypres and the Menin Gate will be seen, and a celebration meal awaits, complete with beer and chocolates.
Gheluvelt Park honors Worcestershire Regiment soldiers who fought bravely on October 31, 1914. Their fight stopped German forces and inspired Allied troops.
Field Marshall John French praised their 1914 battle, saying the 2nd Worcester’s saved the British Empire after the ceasefire in 1918.
