North Wales MS hails Wrexham’s move to reconsider 20mph speed limits after public feedback, citing wasted resources.

The report showed most folks wanted 30mph limits back. This would apply to 52 roads in Wrexham. Rowlands said it was time officials listened to people. He still feels quite frustrated, though.
Rowlands said Wrexham councillors are doing okay. They are trying to make sense of things within the Welsh Government’s rules. However, he is angry about wasted time and energy. Councils are spending money on the speed limit issue.
He thinks the 20mph limit is bad. Rowlands said it impacts lives and the economy. Almost half a million signed a petition against it. It was the biggest Senedd petition ever. The limit still happened anyway.
Rowlands thinks it’s crazy to waste money. It was costly to put the limit in. Reversing some choices is now costly too. He thinks that money should go to important things, like the NHS or schools.
A public survey was done in Wrexham recently, covering December and January. Most people wanted those 52 roads back at 30mph. That’s ninety-three percent of responses.
Wrexham councillors met this week to discuss it. They supported changing the speed limits back. They plan to work with Go Safe on this and hope to finish by May 2025. The communities will have some say, too.
