Two men appeared in court after CCTV footage captured them engaged in a heated argument in Wrexham last October.

Both men admitted to bad behavior involving threatening words. The incident occurred in Wrexham on October 17 of last year. Prosecutor James Ashton spoke in court, saying police went to the Wynnstay Arms pub after receiving reports of a fight there.
The court viewed CCTV footage of the event. Armstrong, aged 27, grabbed a doorstop, which the court viewed as a weapon. Ashton said the fight didn’t escalate physically, but the heated exchange lasted a while.
Euros Jones defended Thomas, who is 40, stating it was more gesturing than actual fighting. Thomas was on a community order at the time and sober due to an alcohol tag. Jones said, “He knows he should have walked away,” and requested a fine, adding that Thomas receives universal credit.
Alun Williams provided Armstrong’s defense, stating Armstrong believed Thomas had hurt his friend earlier. Thomas denied this, but Armstrong’s belief triggered the verbal fight outside the pub. Williams admitted the exchange continued and his client picked something up, not intending to use it, but to keep Thomas away.
Williams agreed a fine was suitable. A probation officer spoke about Thomas, noting he is finishing his community order and recently became homeless again. The Magistrates concluded only egos were hurt that night.
Armstrong must pay a £500 fine, along with £85 in costs and a £200 victim surcharge. Thomas received a £120 fine, must pay £85 in costs, and has a £48 victim surcharge.
