MP Andrew Ranger calls for a new Local Development Plan. This is to address housing and infrastructure needs after a court victory.

Wrexham councillors approved the LDP in December 2023 after a judge ordered them to adopt one after a review, which developers requested after two rejections.
Last December, the Court of Appeal sided with a Plaid Cymru councillor. Marc Jones and others fought six developers and the Welsh Government. The court dismissed the judicial review, meaning councillors did not have to adopt the LDP.
An LDP shows where authorities plan to develop land, using Welsh government projections for several years. The Welsh Government seeks permission to appeal the latest court ruling, continuing their fight with the council.
The meeting is Thursday at 7 p.m. at Maesgwyn Hall. Wrexham MP Andrew Ranger spoke about the dispute and voiced his support for a new LDP.
Ranger wants careful planning for new housing, mentioning type and necessary support. He stated Wrexham needs a sensible discussion, citing the lack of proper housing and rentals. The disputed LDP should have been active since 2013.
Without an LDP, uncontrolled building continues without needed infrastructure. Young people may leave if affordable housing remains scarce, and older residents also need support. This lack of clear planning hurts the community.
Ranger stated a new LDP is necessary to address housing type and location. He argued that schools, doctors, and green spaces matter too, and the plan must resolve the shortage of social housing so local businesses can have workers who need homes.
Ranger wishes to build future communities where people born here deserve good options regarding education, jobs, and housing. He hopes the council and Welsh Government can find solutions. He supports community input to create Wrexham’s LDP.
