A Wrexham woman fraudulently used a stolen bank card to purchase groceries. She received a 12-month conditional discharge.

She admitted to theft and fraud, both of which occurred last August specifically in Wrexham.
On August 26th, Karl Roberts called the police to report his wallet as stolen, believing it had fallen out of his pocket in a taxi.
His bank alerted him via text about his card being used at a Spar for £45, and a failed attempt at Speedy Cars.
Thackerberry obtained the bank card, and cameras captured her using it. The prosecutor noted her criminal history of 12 prior convictions involving 25 offenses, including thirteen for theft.
Mr. Roberts was reimbursed by the bank, incurring no financial loss, and did not seek restitution from Thackerberry.
Stephen Edwards, Thackerberry’s lawyer, described her difficult life.
He elaborated that she is a mother of seven, rarely commits crimes, and is prone to dishonest acts due to financial struggles and poor decisions made under stress.
She used the card at the Spar to purchase her weekly groceries. They asked for a PIN the second time.
The lawyer clarified that she found the card rather than stole the wallet, highlighting that the bank returned the money.
The judges expressed sympathy, acknowledging the challenging times, and advised her to seek help from a foodbank and avoid future crimes. She received a 12-month conditional discharge and must pay a £26 fee.
