McLaren Regeneration and Arlington Real Estate updated locals on the York Central project at a recent meeting.

McLaren Regeneration and Arlington Real Estate organized the event, where representatives addressed questions and presented the future vision of the 45-hectare site. This site is a substantial brownfield area in England.
The meeting formed part of the ongoing community engagement efforts, complementing earlier public meetings held by the City of York Council last October and other prior engagement events.
Tom Gilman and Allan Cook highlighted the £2 billion project during the evening, outlining plans to create 2,500 homes and offices. The project also anticipates incorporating one million square feet of retail space.
Mr. Cook detailed the initial project phase, which necessitates planning permission to advance. It includes a proposed new station entrance and a significant hotel, both planned for construction at the rear of the station.
McLaren Regeneration and Arlington Real Estate are collaborating alongside Homes England and Network Rail Property. City of York Council and the Railway Museum are also involved, collectively delivering this regeneration initiative.
York Central possesses outline consent for forthcoming developments, notably the construction of 2,500 homes, including some designated as affordable housing. Plans also encompass up to one million sq ft of office space, retail and hospitality amenities, station improvements and enhancements for the National Railway Museum.
An artist’s rendering showcased the envisioned new hotel, illustrating the planned rear entrance to the station. A planning application is scheduled for submission by the end of June, focusing on some new homes in the project’s first phase.
Infrastructure work is slated for completion by the upcoming winter, encompassing the construction of two new bridges spanning the railway. The site’s design includes two new public squares, eighteen acres of park land, and the possibility of a future Government Hub.
In September, a planning application will be made for building a replacement footbridge, designated to replace the existing Wilton Rise Footbridge. Additional details are accessible online at yorkcentral.info.
