Knife amnesty bins appear in York as part of effort to reduce knife crime across North Yorkshire.

It’s part of a wider effort to stop knife crime. They put in 20 more knife bins in North Yorkshire. A test bin in Harrogate worked really well. People dropped off over 1,800 knives there.
The council says knife crime is low here. It’s way less than the national average. They don’t want things to get worse, though. The council, York Council, and the police teamed up. They got over £15,000 to make this happen.
The money came from a special policing office. York is a really safe city, a council member stated. But using knives causes serious harm. Carrying a knife always carries a risk. These bins let you get rid of that risk.
You can do so without anyone knowing who you are. If one knife goes into the bin, it will be worth it. Another person said knife crime is a big problem. Our area has lower crime levels, though.
Knives still pose a real danger to us all. More bins are good for a safer community. Police say knife crime here is low. Sadly, they see what happens with knives.
People should use the online map to find a bin. Wrap knives in cardboard to dispose of them. You won’t get in trouble for taking knives there. It helps keep North Yorkshire safe, too.
Wrap the knife in thick paper or cardboard. Tape it for extra safety. Take it to the bin. Drop it in through the opening. Find bin locations at the police website.
