Roads close for York Viking Festival. Closures begin February 20, reopening February 22. Plan your routes in York to avoid delays.

Many streets are affected by this traffic ban. This includes Minster Yard and College Street. Also, Minster Gates and Deangate will close. High and Low Petergate will be affected too.
Stonegate, Davygate, and Church Street are also closing. St Sampson’s Square joins the list, plus High Ousegate. Coppergate, Castlegate, and the Eye of York will also close.
Normally, pedestrian hours run daily from 10:30 AM to 5 PM. Streets usually reopen to cars after that.
The festival provides five days of fun. You can enjoy combat and lectures. See a Viking parade and evening shows. Even fossilized poo recreations will be there.
A free Viking camp is on Parliament Street. Tents will host crafters and traders. You can check replica armor and weapons.
Saturday features the March to Coppergate. Two hundred Vikings gather at Dean’s Park. They’ll march through town to Coppergate. Vikings will then play games at the Eye of York.
Friday and Saturday have nighttime shows. These shows retell a Norse legend about an accurate sword.
The full event runs February 17 to February 23.
