Josh Brown, 20, becomes the UK’s youngest licensed Air Traffic Control Officer at Teesside Airport after dedicated training.

After two years, Josh achieved a big goal: he is now the youngest licensed ATCO in the country. This required hard work and training. He even spent six months in Cheltenham. Josh is very happy with his accomplishment.
He always loved aviation, and this passion really pushed him forward. To become an ATCO, Josh passed difficult tests. The Civil Aviation Authority oversaw these, and training included emergency situations and human factors. He secured his student license last year.
Teesside’s air traffic team handles diverse aircraft. They guide jets and first-time flyers. The team blends youth and experience, and Josh appreciates their support.
The team is close and supportive of each other. Josh thanked them all. He also thanked everyone who supported him, noting that being the youngest controller feels great.
Gayle Douglas praised Josh’s hard work, saying he is a brilliant team member. Qualifying is difficult, but he succeeded. She hopes he inspires other assistants.
