Young folks gave a club a new look. It’s a community center that’s been around a while.

Twenty-seven young people, between fourteen and twenty-four years old, worked hard. They fixed up the Plumstead Common Working Men’s Club on Kirkham Street, working for ten days straight.

The club has been open 116 years, hosting darts tourneys, and is also where The London Youth National League plays.

The group updated the dart areas and sanded the wooden floor in the entrance. The team repaired walls, doors, and boards, and repainted the whole inside.

Toolstation, a tool supplier, paid for the project. The volunteers came from local schools, including London South East College, Newhaven School and Shooter Hills College.

Toolstation teamed up with VIY, which means Volunteer It Yourself. It’s a group that helps communities a lot. The project taught DIY skills and showed teens careers in construction. The space they fixed benefits them, too.

Seventy-five percent earned a City & Guilds award, covering Health & Safety and Painting & Decorating.

Toolstation’s director talked about the project, saying it helps the community and gives young people key trade skills. It also boosts their confidence.
